Briarcrest Elementary School

Have you joined the Briarcrest PTA for this school year? If not, now is the perfect time to do so! While membership is not required to attend our general PTA meetings, membership does allow you to VOTE on issues brought to the board during a meeting, as well as amplify our school and our district's voice at the State level.

  • Signing up for PTA Membership is quick and easy online. Join here!
  • Want to become a member but are concerned about the cost? Not a problem! Many scholarships are available to cover the membership fees. Just send an email to BriarcrestElementaryPTA@gmail.com, and we can help!
  • Can't remember if you joined yet? You can log in to MemberPlanet and check, or email us and we can check and let you know!
  • Memberships need to be reactivated every year. If you were a member last year don't forget to reactivate your membership for 23-24!

Briarcrest Goes Green!
Briarcrest Elementary has recently kicked off a new waste reduction and recycling program as part of the King County Green Schools initiative! In just two short weeks, we have already seen a huge reduction in cafeteria food waste by over 50%! Our first goal is to sustain this inspiring waste reduction and implement self-sustaining ways for all students to independently navigate our system in the cafeteria. Students of all grades have been doing a great job being thoughtful about how to dispose of their food waste and are learning the categories of school waste management and what it means for disposing of their daily school or home lunch items.

We’ll continue to create learning opportunities for students and families to support our efforts and engage in this process over the coming months. Our next goal is to create a Briarcrest Green Team of school community members. The Briarcrest Green Team members may include students, teachers, custodians, administrators, or family/guardian or community volunteers.

Please encourage your student to participate and consider joining us as we look at how to share more information with our school community, create fun and meaningful projects at Briarcrest, and help us track and celebrate our new environmental practices and progress.

For more information on how to get involved or get your student involved, please contact Stephanie Pelz at snpelz@gmail.com.

Book Recommendations

Looking to Expand your Library at home?

Each month, the Briarcrest PTA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee will highlight a children’s book in each PTA newsletter that we think can be a powerful jumping off point for meaningful conversations with our kids. Over the course of the year, we hope to spotlight books that cover issues such as race and racism, immigration and multilingualism, gender and sexuality, disability, and more. We also will feature books that appeal to different age/grade levels. We are open for suggestions of topics and books so let us know if you know of a great book!
